New training week

It's been ages since I last wrote in here, 2 months since I returned from my sabbatical. Coming home as been good - I came back mostly refreshed and feeling like I could get back to my regular job. The sun and the warmth would be nice though!!

My annual September goal for 2011 is to do the Canadian half-ironman distance duathlon. Right now, I feel I need a bit of motivation so have decided that blogging each day about training will help me keep on track - with training, food and everything else. It did cross my mind yesterday that this goal is maybe a bit lofty, but I have to trust my coach. I've hired Ian Fraser, owner of CycleLogik and long time triathlete, cyclist and runner. He's been giving me my schedule every week and advancing me towards the goal. My first race is next week, Sunday May 8th - the Cumberland Duathlon. It's a sprint distance - 2.5 run, 19 km bike, 2.5 run - but a good start to the season. I hope! I don't feel totally prepared right now.

Today's training: a 75 min bike ride. I think I may have left it too late - there's a storm coming in and it looks like rain is inevitable. Do I ride in the rain? I don't think I have a choice! The weather lately has not been conducive to training outside - rain, rain and more rain. At least it's not cold out there - I'll get wet and it'll be slippery, but at least it won't make my cold any worse.

I haven't been in to the gym in almost 3 weeks. I managed to tear or strain an abdominal wall on my right side and it was killing me. Kicking and punching weren't helping. So, no Muay Thai for a while. It did a great deal of good to rest and not stress it out - go figure! But with my duathlon schedule, getting in to the gym is difficult. I might actually have to start doing morning workouts, which does not sound all that appealing.
